ImageJ memory problem: another solution
Dear Zooscan users,
We have experienced memory problems in ImageJ here in Taipei, no matter what kind of computer we use!
The symptom is that ImageJ can't start when we set the memory to 1640MB. Thus 2400dpi images can't be processed.
As described here,
http://rsbweb.nih.gov/ij/docs/install/windows.html
this problem is caused by running a sun java on a 32-bit windows. 64-bit windows don't have the memory limitation, but errors will occur during image process period: "Macro error: Macro editor not available in line 12".
As suggest by some in the IJ wiki, there are other alternative JVM that have no memory limitations (on 32-bit win xp). The one we found is Jrockit originally by BEA.
After install, we modified the ImageJ.cfg file (in IJ root folder): change the second line into the directory that contains the newly installed "javaw.exe", for example: C:\Program Files\Java\jrockit-R27.5.0-jre1.6.0_03\bin\javaw.exe
After this, we can start IJ with memory set to 1640MB (or more), and finish all batch processes.
Cheers,
Chang

Memory limitation issue reolved
We performed the upgrade here at Hydroptic and it did work.
Here is the link to JROCKIT on Oracle web site: http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/jrockit/index.html
Select- "Oracle JRockit Mission Control 3.1.0"
then "Windows X86" for "Java Version 6".
Many thanks to Chang
Best Regards,
Sylvain
