Troubleshooting Empty Troubleshooting

I have been having some glitches with my zooscan, where the lights work fine, and the computer recognizes the scanner (both in Vuescan and Epson Scanner), but it will not scan.

I have looked at the troubleshooting tips in the manual, and it says to "Open the upper cover. Turn OFF and ON the ZooScan and make sure the scanner performs an initialization sequence".
Does the initialization sequence means the scanner bar moves across the whole screen? Mine makes a small movement (less than 1cm) at the right of the screen but does not move.

Is there anything I can do here in the lab to fix this? Does it need to be sent in for repairs?
